Activist Group Opposes Federal Arrest, Deportation Program Says Families Torn Apart by Unnecessary Detainments

PUEBLO, a political and social services organization dedicated to empowering area immigrants and Latinos, announced a new initiative Wednesday to fight Secure Communities (S-Comm), the federal program that works with local law enforcement agencies to deport undocumented serious criminal offenders.

The UCSB Center for New Racial Studies, a campus branch of the UCCNRS, has been cooperating with PUEBLO in a research/action project, "The Insecurity of 'Secure Communities,'" that studies racial profiling of Latin@s within the "Secure Communities" federal program.
