Thousands of Kids Taken From Parents In U.S. Deportation System

Wednesday, November 2, 2011 (All day)

Seth Wessler at Colorlines/ARC just released the report he's been researching for the last year and more.  The project is the first national investigation of the extent to which the children of deported parents languish in foster care. He reported the story from inside immigration detention camps and in small basement Child Projective Services offices all over the country. He found that thousands of children are threatened with extended and often permanent separation from their families because their parents were detained or deported by ICE. As the federal government pursues an immigration enforcement policy more draconian than anything since Operation Wetback, a growing number of families are likely to be irreparably shattered in this way.
