UCCNRS Grant Recipient Wins Guggenheim Fellowship

Renee Tajima-Peña, a professor of community studies at UC Santa Cruz and a 2010-11 UCCNRS grant recipient, has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for 2011.

In a press release issued by UC Santa Cruz, Tajima-Peña, an independent documentary filmmaker, said she will use the fellowship to complete a variety of projects, including ¿Más Bebés? - a documentary about alleged coercive sterilizations of Mexican-American women at L.A. County-USC Medical Center in the 1960s and '70s.

¿Más Bebés? was one of the projects funded by UCCNRS in our first year of grant-making, and the trailer was shown at our conference at UCLA on April 21-22, 2011.
